Tribal Farm Enterprise

The Tribal Farm Enterprise (TFE) currently farms 4,500 acres of wheat, barley, and alfalfa on Tribally-owned land and leased land.  The TFE has 2,200 acres of land in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) which are about 50% Tribally-owned.

In 2001, the Tribal Farm Enterprise began farming 1,200 acres of Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) leases. The TFE staff also performs custom work for other farmers and performs some routine weed control and mowing services.

The total acreage the TFE manages has steadily increased throughout the past few years and is expected to continue to do so with new land acquisitions and new lease assumptions.  The Tribal Farm Enterprise is responsible for improvement and upkeep of the Tribal lands assigned to it and for consistent management of that land.  By diversifying its crops and income streams it has increasingly become a stable and fruitful enterprise.
