Starting June 23, 2008 the CTUIR Public Transportation Program, working with Community Connections of LaGrande, Oregon began providing free bus service on the "LaGrande Arrow" three times a day between LaGrande and the Mission Community on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Connections to other destinations within the Mission Community and Pendleton area will be available by transfers to the Mission Metro Bus. Starting July 1, 2008 two additional routes will be added to the CTUIR Public Transportation Program. The "Cayuse Commuter" bus will pick up riders in the Cayuse, Thornhollow, Weston, Athena and Adams communities. The bus will stop at the post office in each community. In areas that do not have a post office, the bus will stop at the main group of mailboxes in that area. The "Pilot Rocket" bus will provide service between the Mission community and Pilot Rock. All of these new bus routes will have scheduled service three times daily, one in the morning, one at noon and one in the late afternoon. At this time they will run Monday through Friday, with no service on major holidays. These new routes are being funded by the Federal Transit Administration Tribal Transportation Program. The CTUIR intends to operate this service a minimum of two years to determine if there is enough ridership to make these routes permanent. There is no charge for any of the routes at this time. For additional information, please contact the Tribal Planning Office at 541-966-2590.
